  • Satsuma ware (薩摩焼 satsuma yaki) is a style of Japanese earthenware originally from the Satsuma region of what is today southern KyÅ«shÅ«
  • The elaborately decorated export Satsuma (京薩摩kyō satsuma) pieces were produced in the nineteenth century in various Japanese cities
    • By adapting their gilded polychromatic enamel overglaze designs to appeal to the tastes of western consumers, manufacturers of the latter made Satsuma ware one of the most recognized and profitable export products of the Meiji period
  • Decorated with a scene of four Samurai warriors in the midst of battle
    • One Samurai prepares to attack a second warrior, while two others approach the battlefield
  • The base is signed and marked
  • Dimensions: 12"H x 7.5"D
  • Weight: 2.74 pounds (1243 grams)
  • Condition: Overall very good condition; the gilding has rubbed off in a few places; there is a rough area near the green samurai (may have been a production defect)

If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, please notify us so that we can begin the returns process. All items must be returned in the same condition that it was received. Please note that the buyer is responsible for return shipping and a 15% restocking fee may apply if the item is not returned in the same condition that you received it.
