  • Issued under the rule of David Kalakaua I, King of the Hawaiian Islands (1874-1891)
    • King Kalākaua earned the nickname "the Merrie Monarch," because of his love of joyful elements of life; he is also known to have revived the Hawaiian arts of Lua and surfing
    • During his reign, hula was also revived, after having been banned in 1830 by Queen Ka'ahumanu; today, his name lives on in the Merrie Monarch Festival, a hula festival named in his honor
  • Obverse features a bust of the king, facing right, with the legend "KALAKAUA I KING OF HAWAII"
  • Reverse depicts the royal coat of arms of Hawaii, with the legend "UA MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO"
  • Struck from 0.900 silver
  • Condition: Ungraded; expected to grade as Uncirculated (UNC)
